Itinerary:
Day 1
This journey is the best choice for those who have a great spirit of adventure, and really want to discover the wonders of the Tropical Rainforest with safety! Your tour guide will pick you up from Marical Sucre Airport of Quito at the time your flight lands in there, with a sign that has your name on it. Then he will drive you to your hotel in order to rest and recover from all your journey done on your aircraft. Overnight at Hotel EuroBuilding.
Day 2
You will start early in the morning, at 8:00 a.m., towards the “Amazon basins”. After traveling through the Valley of Tumbaco across the eastern cordillera of the Andes and then descending through the cloud forest to reach the small village of Papallacta, you will stop to enjoy its hot springs! This waters give you the opportunity to enjoy its incredible healing and relaxing properties! Papallacta is a small village located at an altitude of 3.300 meters above sea level (10,826 ft), in the Andes mountains, just off the Eastern Cordillera on the road from Quito that leads into the Amazon jungle. You will stop at a Hummingbirds' Paradise to experience the privilege to spot hundreds of them flying around you from a very close distance, then you continue towards Baeza, that is located in between three important national parks: Antisana, Sumaco-Napo-Galeras and Cayambe-Coca! You will stop at the “Macao’s viewpoint”, from where you can appreciate a large green carpet with exuberant Amazon vegetation! Then you arrive to the dock where your motorized canoe awaits to take you to your lodge! After a 10 minutes ride you will arrive to Itamandi Lodge. Immediately you will have time to acclimatize and adapt to the new weather conditions. There you begin your Amazon adventure! Dinner, night walk and overnight at the Jungle Lodge.
Day 3
Breakfast. You go on a canoe ride for about 20 minutes downstream in the Arajuno River, enjoying stunning views of the jungle and its local communities. Then we do a walk into the primary forest. You will also visit an animal rescue centre to spot lots of animals in captivity and in the wild! Eventualy it will be possible to walk around a Quichwa Community, to learn more about their way of living, thoughts and believes, and also to keep watching local creatures in the wild. Then you'll be ready to try one of the most popular adventure water sports well-known as “tubing”! After your fascinating experience by yourself on the friendly waters of the river, you will go back to the lodge to have a tasty lunch. During your walk in the jungle, you will enjoy the incredible landscape of the tropical rainforest! At night you will share your experiences at the pool area, which is located next to the bar! You will enjoy the lovely atmosphere of the lodge for the rest of the night.
Day 4
After having breakfast, you go immediately to Tena, for an excitinig white water river rafting trip in the clear waters of Jantunyacu River!! After three hours enjoying and rowing with your tour group, you will have a rewarding picnic in a sandy river bank, looking how different families of the region are panning gold in the waters coming from the Andes! After drying and changing your clothes, you will continue your journey back to the lodge. Free time to enjoy the lodge and recover from all the exercise done in the morning.
Day 5
Early in the morning, before breakfast, you'll have the opporutnity to take a canoe ride to visit a especial location where every morning a large group of parrots and parakeets join to lick stones rich in minerals, which is necessary to help them digest other products that they will eat on the rest of the day. You return back to the lodge to have breakfast. Then your next destination is Puyo, where you will learn all about the wooden carvings made out of balsa wood. Continuing with our trip you cannot miss the well-known and famous “Avenue of the Waterfalls”; where you will visit the “Devil's Cauldron”, where you will walk through narrow trails and hanging bridges, until you arrive to the 72-meters-tall waterfall, that give you the opportunity to enjoy three more waterfalls! Going back to the Andes, you will stop to take a ride on a 500-meters-long cable car, which give you the privilege to admire another beautiful waterfall called “Manto de la Novia”. You go through several tunnels built inside the mountains until you arrive to the “Agoyán waterfall”. Finally you arrive to “Baños de Agua Santa”, wich is at the foothills of the majestic “Tungurahua Volcano” (5.016 m - 16,456 ft) that has been in activity since 1999! You will stay the overnight at Hotel Monteselva SPA & Resort, located in a privileged area of the city! Time to relax in the SPA or at the picturesque streets of Baños de Agua Santa.
Day 6
Breakfast. At 9:00 a.m. you'll be prepare to discover the lush and charming cloud-forest-region, located at the foothills of the Andes, doing an exciting canyoning excursion through several waterfalls that descend from the Llanganates National Park. It is gonna be a challenging, fun and refreshing adventure that will keep you wet all morning! Then after having lunch, we'll go for another challenge at an espectacular setting of lava and basalt rock-walls located beside of Pastaza River. Once in there you'll have the opportunity to do an unforgettable adrenaline sports-circuit of ziplining and rock climbing! This will stay in your mind for ever!! Afterwards you'll return with your guide, back to your hotel. Time to rest and relax.
Day 7
Breakfast. At 10:00 a.m. your tour guide will drive up to the foothills of Tungurahua Volcano to enjoy an easy and relaxing morning, visiting the Bellavista viewpoint, and the swings located at the world-wide-known "Casa del Árbol". After doing it, and if you still have some energy left, it will be possible to do a gorgeus hike around Baños. In the afternoon it will be possible to explore by your own the charming streets of Baños, and the monastery of the "Virgin of Agua Santa”, where is possible to see paintings that describe different eruptions of the Tungurahua Volcano.
Day 8
Breakfast. On our last day, you'll start at 8:00 a.m., from your hotel in Baños towards the "Avenue of the Volcanoes", and with a visit to the local indian community of Quilotoa! The drive to Quilotoa Volcano displays stunning views of the Andean mountains, passing the ancient canyon of the Toachi River, many indigenous communities and farmlands. Before lunch, in the location known as “Huayra Pungo”, we will visit a local indigenous hut, where you will have the opportunity to interact with the inhabitants of the hut and perhaps to learn few Kichwa words, which is the native language of this region! Then you'll do a steep hike down into Quilotoa Crater, where is a sparkling-emerald-lake inside the extinct volcano, located at 3.600 meters above sea level (11,811 ft). Once at the bottom of the crater you'll take a Kayaking ride for about 20 minutes to enjoy the majesty of this living God! The way back to the top, where the parking area is located, takes about one hour hiking, or there is an option of renting a mule or a horse, with a comfortable settle, for your way back!! We'll finish this unforgettable experience in Ecuador at 6:00 p.m. back in Quito. Your tour guide will be able to leave you at Quito's Airport after 6:00 p.m., or at any hotel of your preference in the case you will continue with another journey in Ecuador or the Galapagos Islands. End of this fantastic adventure!!
